A SELF-TEST
Everyone loves to hear good news. Especially when headlines bombard us with vivid reminders of the depravity of humankind. Here’s an opportunity to test yourself to see how much you know about the best news of all.
Do you know what the good news is?
Have you heard that there is something beyond the craziness of this world? That there’s an unseen dimension that the power of hope reveals?
“I gave you the message that I received. I told you the most important truths: that Christ died for our sins, as the Scriptures say; that he was buried and was raised to life on the third day, as the Scriptures say.” I Corinthians 15:3 NLT
Do you know who needs to know the best news of all?
Because no one can escape the evil in our world…
“As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous— not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” Romans 3:10-12 NLT
…everyone needs to know that there is hope.
“If you openly say, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from death, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 NLT.
Do you know who gets credit for the good news?
As much as some love to boast that they have the answer to our desperate state, only one – God – can free us from despair. And the price-tag to us? Free!
“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT
Do you know that you are supposed to guard the good news?
In his wisdom, God gives his children the gift of the Holy Spirit to help discern and discard any falsehood that would shadow the truth of the saving power of his gift.
“Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me—a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus. Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you.” II Timothy 1:13-14 NLT
Do you know that you are supposed to share the good news?
Since God promised to be with us as we tell others about the gift he gave us that is available to them, too, why is it sometimes hard for us to share?
“Yet preaching the Good News is not something I can boast about. I am compelled by God to do it. How terrible for me if I didn’t preach the Good News! If I were doing this on my own initiative, I would deserve payment. But I have no choice, for God has given me this sacred trust.” I Corinthians 9:16-17 NLT
Do you know how important is it to share the good news?
Most important, God’s plan is for us to help build his kingdom family. It’s his priority. Is it yours?
“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” Acts 20:24 NLT
I pray that you not only desire God’s gift but that you will want others to know of his saving grace, too.
