Advent’s joy is life changing.
Advent’s joy is possible by accepting God’s gift of eternal life through faith in his son, Jesus.
Many have never heard of God’s gift and restlessly seek security. Without God, they will never experience hope or peace and will therefore never know what joy is. Others have heard, but knowing about God’s faithfulness isn’t enough. To receive the gift and bask in the safety of His love and trustworthiness is to be content – joyful. Relying on him to be our provider, our strength, and our hiding place puts us in a state of pure joy.
Advent’s joy transforms lives.
Joy changes how God sees us.
The Bible says God rejoices when we accept his way.
“In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!” Luke 15:7 NLT
Joy changes God’s focus.
God promises to grant us the joy of his presence.
“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.” Psalm 16:11 NLT
Joy changes how we see ourselves.
We realize we are safe. God takes care of everything, including our enemies.
“Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely. But those plotting to destroy me will come to ruin. They will go down into the depths of the earth.” Psalm 63:7-9 NLT
Joy changes our daily lives.
We see trouble as opportunities to build our endurance.
“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” James 1:2-4 NLT
Because Jesus’ power is so transforming, I hope you take the time this week to reflect on and accept Advent’s joy.
