The Call to Compassion
In a world filled with challenges and conflicts, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless and forget our calling as Christians to remember the call to compassion. We fulfill this mission by emulating the love of Christ in our daily lives, reaching out to those in need, and spreading kindness wherever we go.
Clothed in Compassion
The Bible instructs us to “clothe” ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience (Colossians 3:12). These virtues should be embodied in our interactions with others. By doing so, we become a beacon of light in a world that’s often filled with darkness.
The Example of Jesus
Jesus is our ultimate example of the call. Throughout His ministry, He showed mercy to the marginalized, the sick, the outcasts, and the sinners. He saw their pain, struggles, and challenges and responded with love and empathy.
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Matthew 9:36
Putting the Call into Action
Compassion is something that we should put into practice every day. Whether it’s lending a listening ear to a friend in need, bringing a meal to someone who’s sick or grieving, volunteering at a local shelter, or offering a kind word or compliment to someone who appears tired, alone, or in need of encouragement, every act of mercy matters.
The Impact of Compassion
When we accept the call and help others, we bear witness to the love of Christ. We become the hands and feet of Jesus, reaching out to those who are hurting and in need. And in doing so, we inspire others to do the same. So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the world’s challenges, remember the power of compassion. Put it into practice in your daily life and watch as it transforms not only the lives of those around you but also your own. Answer the call today.
