Christ’s instructions to his followers are to “go and make disciples”.
Jesus told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.
And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
As a follower, sharing our faith isn’t just a suggestion; it’s a command. Sharing makes many Christians uneasy, but rest assured, God is with us to guide our conversation. Jesus says so in the next verse – I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
To prepare for this task of “going and make disciples”:
- First, try to live a Godly life. Check your attitudes and actions to ensure they align with God’s principles. Please don’t wait until you are Godly – you will never be ready to share!
- Second, pray for God to help you share his love with those you come in contact with.
- Third, make time to build relationships. Be sure to tell people that God loves them. More importantly, show them God’s love through your actions and speech.
You can’t rush God’s work, so pray more – this time fervently for those with whom you share his message and then be content, knowing that you have planted seeds of God’s will.
Another thing you can do is invite people to church. One of my favorite times of the week is when I’m surrounded by my church family. I want to share this experience with others, all are welcome.
Finally, ask God to give you the strength to continue sharing about him when you venture into the world. Satan is at work daily, and we must rely on God’s power as we share his love and promises everywhere we venture.
Recently, one of my sisters in Christ had the opportunity to share God’s word in the bathroom of Walmart – of all places! While washing her hands she struck up a conversation with the lady at the next washstand and immediately noticed her need for support. She gently consoled her, prayerfully shared God’s word, and gently prayed with the woman telling her how much our Savior loved her. Afterwards, she gave her a card to visit Balboa Baptist Church! We welcome all. This is a perfect example of following God’s command to “go out and make disciples in His name”.
