For the Christian, sharing the story of how God has given you freedom, direction, and hope can be intimidating.
“Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
Here are 5 tips to help you tell others how they can experience a new beginning, too.
1. God commanded you to tell the good news and make disciples.
Regardless of your fears or hesitations, God commissioned you to bear witness to the good news of Jesus and his gift to the world. When God calls you to share, he is there with you while you do. Step forward and allow God to work.
2. Remember to love.
You are called to love those in need as well as your enemies. You love them because God loves you. He will give you a sincere heart to care for and share his love with when you see people through his eyes.
3. The hero of your story is God.
God is the hero of your story. He has called you to give an account of what he has done in your life, not what you have done to get to where you are today. You were once headed down a road to destruction, but God intervened and radically altered your path.
Because of Jesus’ redemptive work, your story becomes part of God’s story, one in which He receives the glory.
4. Focus on how you have changed.
Change is your story of God’s mercy and saving grace at work in you. You have been forgiven and reconciled to God the Father through Jesus Christ. People need change. They need forgiveness, Jesus, and what you are offering.
5. Not everyone wants you to share.
The creator of this world has set you apart. Like it or not, your story will make many people uncomfortable because Satan wants them kept in darkness, so he will use hostility to discourage you from sharing the light of truth. Therefore, since God is the light, stay close to him because Satan doesn’t dwell in the light.
